Yes, this is a pain point right now. During the early adopters phase, I faced a similar challenge and am still working on finding the best solution. My goal is to make everything fully public & also offer a seamless experience, but I haven’t yet found a reliable way to track the project’s growth. Currently, the funding relies heavily on support from the German government and partner companies, which I don’t need to repay as long as the project’s development continues and interest grows. To meet their requirements, the open-source packages are available for free through the members portal. I also considered adding a ‘give back’ system where users can show support by starring the project on GitHub (as long as it aligns with GitHub’s terms of service). I want to stress that I don’t share any personal or company account information, just data on how many users have registered or obtained memberships or cloud hosting.
Why is this the case? During the early adopters phase, I knew people were using NetLock, but I couldn’t prove it to the funding programs. Once more companies start paying for memberships or the cloud version, I can transition away from the funding program and make everything fully public again. That said, I still need to pay my bills.😄
Here’s the deal: You have the option to compile and package everything yourself, which I understand requires significant development experience, or you can support the project by registering for an account on our free members portal to access these packages in the easiest way possible. The open-source membership includes package hosting, allowing you to easily provide your NetLock RMM server instance with the necessary packages.
You get access to an open-source, top-tier RMM solution, and we can continue to grow with the funding partners supporting us. 🙂
